Also called Bushman's Candle, this South African native is closely related to the common Geranium and Pelargonium, but is adapted to desert conditions. Many people consider it to be a species of Monsonia. It produces fat stems that often grow horizontally a few inches above the ground. The leaves are small and fern like. The petioles (leaf stalks) of each leaf turn into spines when the leaf dies. Flowers are an
