Carved Lintel Panel Of Ganesh & Gajalaxmi From Gujarat - 18thC Period - Shōwa Slaked lime (chunam) paste isThis intricately carved antique Indian panel depicts Ganesh on the left and Gaja Lakshmi on the right. Gaja Lakshmi or Gajalaxmi means Lakshmi with elephants. She sits atop a lotus throne and symbolises both fertility and abundance whilst being bathed by elephants. Gaja Lakshmi motifs are commonly found in both Hinduism & Buddhism. The style of carving indicates it to be Gujarati in origin. It would have adorned an old haveli, a home of a merchant.
